Why have a wedding weekend?
A single wedding day goes by in a blur. Spreading the celebration over a weekend gives you time with the people who matter: a relaxed dinner the night before, the wedding itself without anyone watching the clock, and a slow breakfast together the morning after. Guests who have travelled far get far more out of the trip, and you get to enjoy your own wedding.
Every venue on this page is hired exclusively for the whole stay. We have 16 weekend wedding venues, including Dreamstone Castle in Swansea, Pulborough Estate in Pulborough and Toft Estate in Leek.
Friday: arrivals and a welcome dinner
Most couples arrive on Friday afternoon, settle into their rooms and let suppliers start setting up. A barbecue, a pizza night or a long table supper with the people staying is a lovely way to ease into the weekend, and it means everyone has already met by the time the ceremony starts.
Saturday: the wedding day
With everyone already on site, the morning is calm. Hair and make-up happen in the bedrooms, the wedding party gets ready together and nobody has to drive anywhere. Ceremony, drinks, wedding breakfast and evening party can all take place at the venue, and the night can run as late as the house rules allow, with bed just upstairs.
Sunday: the morning after
Sunday is many couples’ favourite part of the weekend. A late brunch, a walk in the grounds, a dip in the hot tub where the house has one, and time to go over the best moments of the day before everyone heads home. Some couples stay an extra night to make the most of a bank holiday or simply to have the venue to themselves.
How many guests can stay?
Our weekend wedding venues sleep between 16 and 80 people, and nine of them sleep 30 or more. Bedrooms usually go to the wedding party, parents and closest friends, with other guests in hotels, inns or cottages nearby. Many venues welcome extra day and evening guests for the Saturday – use the Sleeps filter above to see the venues big enough for your group.
Choosing the right venue for your weekend
Think about how the house will work across three days, not just one. Is there a separate space for Friday’s dinner and Saturday’s party? Are there enough bathrooms for everyone getting ready at once? Is there somewhere quiet for older guests and children to retreat to? Grounds for a walk or lawn games, a games room or a hot tub all help the weekend feel like a proper break. Our team knows each venue and can suggest two or three that fit how you want the weekend to run.
Getting married at the venue
In England and Wales, a venue needs a wedding licence to host the legal ceremony on site. Venues showing Wedding Licence or Wedding Receptions host weddings today. Where a house is not licensed, many couples hold the legal ceremony at a nearby register office or church and a personal, symbolic ceremony at the venue in front of everyone. In Scotland, an authorised celebrant can marry you at almost any venue.
Costs and when to book
Weekend hire usually runs for two or three nights, and one price covers the whole venue and every bedroom. Prices depend on the venue, the season and the number of nights. Summer weekends book up first, often 12 to 24 months ahead, while spring, autumn and winter weekends are easier to find and usually cost less. Enter your dates above to see which venues are free.
