Why choose a venue that sleeps 40 or more?

The more people who stay on site, the more your wedding feels like a weekend rather than a single day. With room for 40 or more, you can keep the wedding party, both families and your closest friends together, so nobody has to leave early and everyone is there for breakfast the next morning. It also cuts down on taxis, hotel bookings and late-night logistics.

We have six wedding venues that sleep 40 or more, including Dreamstone Castle in Swansea, Pulborough Estate in Pulborough and Toft Estate in Leek. Each one is hired by a single couple at a time.

Large venues for big weddings

Venues that sleep 40 or more are among the largest whole-house rentals in the country. They suit big families, wedding parties that want everyone on site, and couples who want a festival feel to the weekend. Many have extra buildings, cottages or barns in the grounds, so guests have their own space while staying close to the celebration.

How many guests can stay?

These venues sleep between 40 and 80 people. Sleeping numbers count beds, not day guests: many venues welcome more people for the ceremony and reception, with the rest staying in hotels, inns or cottages nearby. Check the day-guest limit with our team, and remember that some sleeping spaces may be bunk beds or sofa beds.

Allocating the bedrooms

Decide early who gets a bed on site. Most couples start with the wedding party, parents and grandparents, then close friends. Think about older guests and give them rooms with easy access, put families with children near each other, and keep a quiet room free for getting ready on the morning of the wedding. A simple room plan shared before the weekend saves confusion on arrival.

Arriving and getting around

With a big group, arrival needs a plan. Check how much parking the venue has and whether a minibus from the nearest station makes sense, and share clear directions and check-in times before the weekend. Large houses can take a while to explore, so a simple map of who is sleeping where helps everyone settle in quickly.

Planning your wedding weekend

Most couples book from Friday to Sunday. Friday is for arriving, unpacking and a relaxed welcome dinner or barbecue with everyone who is staying. Saturday is the wedding, with a slow start for getting ready and no one needing to travel. Sunday brings a long breakfast or brunch, a walk and time to relive the day together before everyone heads home.

Having everyone under one roof also makes the practical side simpler: suppliers know where to come, the wedding party is never far away, and there is no rush to leave at the end of the night. Our team can help you plan the timings and point you to suppliers who know the venue.

Getting married at the venue

In England and Wales, a venue needs a wedding licence to host the legal ceremony on site. Venues showing Wedding Licence or Wedding Receptions host weddings today. Where a house is not licensed, many couples hold the legal ceremony at a nearby register office or church and a personal, symbolic ceremony at the venue in front of everyone. In Scotland, an authorised celebrant can marry you at almost any venue.

Costs and when to book

One price covers the whole venue and every bedroom, so the cost per person is often lower than a hotel wedding once you share it across the guests who stay. Prices depend on the venue, the season, the day of the week and the number of nights. Large venues are in high demand for summer weekends – most couples book 12 to 24 months ahead.
