Why choose a castle for your wedding?
Few settings make an entrance like a castle. Stone walls, towers and great halls give the day a sense of occasion before any decorations go up, and the photographs almost take care of themselves. When you hire a castle exclusively, it becomes your home for the weekend, with space for dinner, dancing and quiet moments away from the crowd.
We currently have one castle in this collection, including Dreamstone Castle in Swansea, and we are adding more. Each one is booked by a single couple at a time.
What exclusive use of a castle includes
Exclusive use means the whole castle and its grounds are yours for the stay. That usually includes every bedroom, the main hall or dining room, the lounges, the kitchen and the gardens. You set the pace of the weekend, from a relaxed welcome dinner on Friday to a long brunch on Sunday morning.
Ceremonies at a castle
To hold the legal ceremony on site in England and Wales, a venue needs a wedding licence. Where a castle is licensed, you may be able to marry indoors or, weather allowing, in the grounds. Where it is not, many couples hold the legal ceremony at a nearby register office or church and a personal, symbolic ceremony at the venue. Venues showing Wedding Licence or Wedding Receptions host weddings today. In Scotland, an authorised celebrant can marry you almost anywhere.
How many guests can stay?
Our castle venues sleep between 40 and 80 people, and one of them sleeps 30 or more. That usually covers the wedding party and close family, while other guests stay in hotels or cottages nearby. Extra guests can often join for the day and evening; our team will confirm the limits and any rules on music and finishing times.
Planning a castle wedding
Castles bring their own practicalities. Older buildings can have narrow stairs, uneven floors and thick walls, so think about older guests and ask where suppliers can unload. Lighting matters too: candles, lanterns and festoon lights suit stone interiors beautifully, but always check the venue’s rules first. A visit before you book is the best way to picture the day.
Planning your wedding weekend
Most couples book a castle from Friday to Sunday. Friday is for arriving, unpacking and a relaxed welcome dinner or barbecue with the people staying. Saturday is the wedding itself, with time in the morning for hair and make-up without anyone having to travel. Sunday brings a slow breakfast or brunch, a walk, perhaps a dip in the hot tub, and the chance to relive the day together before everyone heads home.
Having everyone under one roof also makes the practical side simpler: suppliers know where to come, the wedding party is never far away, and there is no rush to leave at the end of the night. Our team can help you plan the timings and point you to suppliers who know the venue.
Costs and when to book
Castle prices depend on the venue, the season, the day of the week and how many nights you stay. Summer weekends are the most in demand, while winter can be magical, with log fires and candlelit dinners, and usually costs less. Couples typically book 12 to 24 months ahead – enter your dates above to see what is free.
