Why marry in the North of England?
The North has space, drama and a famously warm welcome. Moors, dales, rivers and coast give you a different backdrop at every venue, and historic halls and country houses offer the grandeur many couples want. Prices are often kinder than in the South, and guests love making a weekend of it. Hiring the whole venue keeps everyone together from Friday to Sunday.
We have 11 venues in the North, including The Rosewood Hall in Doncaster, Main Street Inn in Brigg and Bryony Barn in Sedbergh.
Where our northern venues are
Our venues here range from South Yorkshire to the North East, from grand halls in their own parkland to converted stables and barns. Some are a short drive from cities such as Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle; others feel properly rural. Use the Where filter or ask our team which venues suit your guests’ travel.
What exclusive use includes
Exclusive use means the venue, every bedroom and the grounds are yours alone for the stay. That usually covers the reception rooms, kitchen and dining space, gardens and terraces, and extras such as hot tubs or games rooms where the venue has them.
How many guests can stay?
Our northern venues sleep between 14 and 42 people, and three of them sleep 30 or more. That usually covers the wedding party and close family, with other guests in nearby hotels and cottages. Extra guests can often join for the day and evening – our team will confirm the numbers for each venue.
Getting there
The A1(M) and M1 run north–south through the region, and East Coast mainline trains stop at Doncaster, York and Newcastle. Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports serve guests coming from further away. For rural venues, a minibus or taxis for the evening make the night easier for everyone.
Food, drink and things to do
Northern hospitality is legendary, and the region’s caterers make the most of local lamb, game, cheeses and puddings, with plenty of craft breweries and gin distilleries for the bar. Guests staying for the weekend can walk in the Yorkshire Dales or along the Northumberland coast, explore historic cities such as York and Durham, or simply settle into a country pub. Our team can recommend suppliers who know each venue well.
Planning your wedding weekend
Most couples book their venue from Friday to Sunday. Friday is for arriving, unpacking and a relaxed welcome dinner or barbecue with the people staying. Saturday is the wedding itself, with time in the morning for hair and make-up without anyone having to travel. Sunday brings a slow breakfast or brunch, a walk, perhaps a dip in the hot tub, and the chance to relive the day together before everyone heads home.
Having everyone under one roof also makes the practical side simpler: suppliers know where to come, the wedding party is never far away, and there is no rush to leave at the end of the night. Our team can help you plan the timings and point you to suppliers who know the venue.
Choosing the right venue
Start with numbers: how many guests need a bed, and how many will join for the day. Then think about the setting you want – a grand house with formal rooms, an estate with grounds for drinks and photos, or a barn for a relaxed party – and how far your guests will be travelling. Our team knows the venues in the North well and can help you shortlist two or three to visit before you book.
When to book
Summer Saturdays are the busiest dates, so book 12 to 24 months ahead if you want one. The North looks wonderful in autumn colour and in crisp winter light too, and off-peak dates are easier to find and often cost less. Enter your dates above to see which venues are free.
