Why marry in the South East?
The South East packs a lot into a short journey from London: the South Downs, the Weald, ancient woodland and a long stretch of coast. For couples with guests spread across the country it is easy to reach, and for those flying in, Heathrow and Gatwick are close by. Hiring a whole venue turns a wedding day into a relaxed weekend for everyone.
We have three venues in the South East, including Pulborough Estate in Pulborough, Greenwood Estate in Hailsham and Goldfinch Lakeside Manor in Saxmundham.
Estates and country houses near London
Many of our South East venues are estates and country houses set in their own grounds, with lawns for drinks, space for photos and, at some, room for a marquee. Being close to London means guests can arrive on Friday evening after work and stay for the whole weekend rather than dashing off after the speeches.
What exclusive use includes
Exclusive use means the house, its bedrooms and its grounds are booked only for your wedding party. That usually covers the reception rooms, kitchen and dining space, the gardens and terraces, and extras such as pools, hot tubs or games rooms where the venue has them.
How many guests can stay?
Our South East venues sleep between 24 and 53 people, and two of them sleep 30 or more. That is usually the wedding party and close family, with other guests in hotels and inns nearby. Extra day and evening guests can often join the celebration – our team will confirm the limits for each venue.
Getting there
The region is well served by motorways, including the M25, M23 and A3, and by frequent trains from London to towns across Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Gatwick is particularly handy for international guests. Rural venues usually need a taxi or a short drive from the nearest station, so it is worth arranging transport for the evening.
Food, drink and things to do
The South East has some of England’s best vineyards, particularly across Sussex and Kent, and English sparkling wine makes a natural choice for the toast. Local caterers draw on farms, orchards and the coast, and there are plenty of experienced wedding suppliers within reach of every venue. Guests staying for the weekend can walk on the South Downs, visit the coast at Brighton or Rye, or explore country gardens and historic towns nearby.
Planning your wedding weekend
Most couples book their venue from Friday to Sunday. Friday is for arriving, unpacking and a relaxed welcome dinner or barbecue with the people staying. Saturday is the wedding itself, with time in the morning for hair and make-up without anyone having to travel. Sunday brings a slow breakfast or brunch, a walk, perhaps a dip in the hot tub, and the chance to relive the day together before everyone heads home.
Having everyone under one roof also makes the practical side simpler: suppliers know where to come, the wedding party is never far away, and there is no rush to leave at the end of the night. Our team can help you plan the timings and point you to suppliers who know the venue.
Choosing the right venue
Start with numbers: how many guests need a bed, and how many will join for the day. Then think about the setting you want – a grand house with formal rooms, an estate with grounds for drinks and photos, or a barn for a relaxed party – and how far your guests will be travelling. Our team knows the venues in the South East well and can help you shortlist two or three to visit before you book.
When to book
South East venues are popular with London couples, so summer Saturdays can book up well over a year ahead. Fridays, Sundays and midweek dates are easier to find and often cost less. Enter your dates above to see what is available.
